About the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce
The mission of the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce is to support and promote business, tourism, and education in our community.
Founded in 1923, the Lavonia Chamber is one of the oldest Chambers of Commerce in Georgia and is a viable and active asset to the City of Lavonia.
Lavonia’s diversified economy is driven by manufacturing, locally-owned small businesses, and agriculture commodities which rank in the State’s top ten production of poultry, beef cows, hay, and barley.
Visitors can start their trip to Lavonia at the Welcome Center located in the restored train depot adjacent to the still-operating railroad tracks. Downtown is bustling with distinctive and unique places of business which have become destinations for shopping and dining. One shop features clothing, toys and yarn made from alpaca fibers along with imported coffee and wine tastings. Down the block, a gourmet coffee and pastry shop anchors the corner. Apparel, art and home decor fill shops on other blocks. Restaurants, antiques shops and boutiques are other reasons to spend time strolling the tree-lined streets.
National brand restaurants, hotels and other merchants welcome travelers and locals in the vicinity ofLavonia’s Interstate I85 Exit 173.
Each Spring and Fall the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce presents Festivals featuring handcrafts, children’s amusements and delicious food. Not only do local residents enjoy these fun-filled days, but out-of-towners have the opportunity to see everything that Lavonia has to offer. Another well-known event is the annual production of “Land of Spirit” folk-life play.
The Gazebo park is the place to catch the farmers’ market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings or an evening concert featuring a variety of musical styles.
Located at Exit 173 off Interstate 85, the city is flanked by hotels, restaurants, manufacturing sites, a modern medical facility and farmland. It’s also the gateway to beautiful Lake Hartwell where fishing, boating, camping, watersports and competitive events are accessible from boat ramps, a marina and Tugaloo State Park for a vacation or a day trip. By using Lavonia as their base, travelers can venture to the North Georgia Mountains, sports events at two major universities and an outstanding outlet mall, all less than an hour away.
Recognizing that a high-quality educational system is vital to the community’s quality of life, the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce annually presents three scholarships and supports the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy. Concerned for the well-being of all local students, the Chamber supports Food 4 Kids, and collectsand donates school supplies and children’s clothing. Several educators serve on the Chamber’s board of directors. Two liberal arts colleges and a technical college are located within a few minutes of Lavonia. These educational opportunities enable our young people to fill skilled jobs and remain in the community.
The Lavonia Chamber of Commerce offers high-quality programs to its members. Recent topics include workforce development, agriculture, rural health care, corporate citizenship, tourism’s impact on the local economy and Lavonia’s bright future.
The Chamber’s weekly newsletters, an active member-oriented Facebook page and a user-friendly website enable members to stay current on business and community activities.
